Had both a conservatory and double glazinf fitted last Dec by company called New Look Windows (Somerset) Limited, we built the conservatory base ourselves. Since then we have had numerous faulst with both conservatory an windows, including leaks in conservatory, warping doors, windows etc.

Unfortuantley the company were not to good at customer service and although have rectifed a number of faults we still have a leak at the rear of the conservatory and therefore cannot complete the floor, and of course they went bankrupt on the 10th June 2009 see bankrupt list

I done some research on their MD and found that he established another company New Look Windows (Somerton) Limited in Feb 2009, and guess what this was up and trading from the same website with small name changes, same address , same phone numbers, more o less same staff on the 12th June.

During the process of actually getting to installation we had numerous clashes with the MD causing him to swear at me , thought i was the customer??

And now i have put theseissues on the www.problemsolvedwebsite.com he is actually stating that the company did not go bankrupt, but somehow that does not make sense since he will not support the warranty on my installation.

So 6 months on i am left with a conservatory i cannot use, windows that do not close open always and parts coming away in various locations.

So beware of New Look Windows (Somerton) Limited , i believe not a very honest / trustworthy company.

Sound like a nightmare, sorry to hear your story Simon.

I would contact the liquidators of the first company and claim that you are a creditor, even if you have paid all of the fee and not just the deposit, after all, it sounds like they have breached the contract. What kind of guarantee did they give you?

Hello, we had our windows installed around four years ago by New Look Windows and were very pleased indeed. We asked them to come back and replace a misted piece of glass and this was repaired within a few days of my phone call last week. I found their service and products very good and would recommend them.

Having checked the company out, i find that they didnt go bankrupt as there is a big difference between Bankrupt and Liquidation, i should contact them again to see if they will help.

Polly,

glad that you have had a good experience, whcih i am sure amuber of customers have. I contacted the liquidator when they were in liquidation and he told me the company was insolvent which i take to mean bankrupt.

OK so insolvency means "unable to pay creditors or meet liabilities" , in any case not able to continue trading.

it is not the fact that they were liquidtaed it was the way it was all obviosuly pre planned with company established in Feb 09 whcih is the one they trad from now but not going into administration unitil May 09. They had from Dec 08 until Jun 09 to clear all of my issues.

But i will take your advice and contact them.

If you have a rouge Director or shareholder, then liquidation is a route to resovle this, so there is a great difference. Lets take administration, thats when the company cannot meet creditors debts or pay its bills. No sign that this has happened.

Surely if New Look were in that position, they would not be in the same premises. They have an established company New Look Builders, which as i know has a good name there in the area.

good luck

I agree with Simon, this company is not to be trusted. I have contacted the Independent Insurance Warranty Service and I understand that there are many customers in the same position as ourselves. I have also contacted the Office of Fair Trading and they have logged my concerns. I think the next step is BBC Watchdog. Traders like this must be exposed

This would appear to be quite a common trick. Wind one company up and continue to trade with a different name, it becomes a nightmare to try and make anyone accountable for their actions.

I speak from experience of having to tackle a set of (ahem) people who continue to carry out this tactic to this day. Believe me they seem to know what they're doing.

As long as we can contiune to identify and inform, hopefully we can do our bit to help stamp it out.

Sorry to hear about the bad experience.

Anyone know of any other companies that are worth avoiding?

I bet we couldn't count them on all our hands Basecamp. But hopefully the forum can continue raise awareness.

Hi nefilim,

Thanks for your comment. Had a read of your blog post and to use your quote, it's all too familiar with everyone. The problem we have in the industry is so common. Partly lack of training, mostly arrogance. I've lost count the amount of times I've heard it.

Let's hope with the growing trend in online discussions, networking, etc., that this 'breed' will eventually get uncovered and unable to get away with their antics.

Liked your bit about 'vinolent now out of business' btw. Recommend other forummers or browsers to read the post.

Hi yeovilman,

Thanks for leaving your comments. Glad to hear you had a good experience. Although, it does show how there is an inherent problem with our industry. The fact you feel 'fingers crossed' kinda says it all.
