My daughter had two double glazed fitted last year and one of them has a large crack on the inside. She phoned the installer and he said that they were not guaranteed (he actually said they were not guaranteed after a week). Surely this is not correct. She also cannot remember being given any paperwork at the time either.

They should be guaranteed. And she should have had paperwork. Does she have any form of receipt at least? This rubbish about being out of guarantee after is just that, rubbish.

Most warranties do not cover breakages of any sort, any replacements would be at the goodwill of your installer, and if he buys his units in , he will not be getting any credit for the broken unit from his supplier let alone his labour costs of visiting to change it.

Our guarantee covers breakages if there is a fault with the product, in other words if it fails. If a bird flies into it or the customer does it themselves then it won't be covered. But if it cracks within the ten years then we just replace it.

What price do you put on customer service?

Given the OP mentions a large crack on the inside, it's my guess that it's an annealed unit, so what's it going to cost to replace, £10 maybe max. An hour to go out and replace it.

Surely, the reputational aspect is worth far more than that. Is the OP going to ever recommend this guy to anyone else. I doubt it. Is the OP going to talk bad about this guy to others, most definitely.

Again, I'm with you DGB, just replace it and you'll do more good than harm. It's simple PR.

Hi again. My daughter had no paperwork so she's out on a limb. Anyway she has got the glass replaced by using someone else at a cost of course. Not worth claiming on house insurance as excess £100. The firm that replaced it said it appeared to be a fault in the manufacture. Thanks to all who replied. Of course, as stated, she will not be using the company again when she comes to replace some of her other windows.

Windows should always come with some form of guarantee or warrantee to ensure you (the customer) at least know they will last for a certain period of time. I honestly don't think this is correct and you should thoroughly check documentations to see what you are entitled to.

Who gives the gaurantee for windows. I don't think so that any one in the world would gaurantee for the windows.
